IBB is buying 160 new buses for the metrobus fleet

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality took delivery of 30 new buses, the first part of 160 new buses purchased by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, at a ceremony held at IETT Edirnekapı Bus Garage.

21-meter 200-passenger capacity and 25-meter 280-passenger capacity vehicles joined the metrobus fleet.

Stating that he wished the buses to be auspicious in his speech at the delivery ceremony, IBB Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu said, "We have repeatedly stated that we need the renewal of buses. This is not enough, we need it. If they don't prevent us, we can do it faster. In accordance with the specifications prepared as a 3-year maintenance and repair guaranteed garage operating model, my friends, in August last year, launched a tender for the purchase of 100 21-meter and 60 25-meter vehicles."

Imamoğlu said, "It is a separate gain for Istanbul as it is designed suitably for the road and specially produced by improving passenger conditions. With the metro-type sliding doors used, passenger getting in and off will be even easier. Thanks to the high passenger capacity of our vehicles, we will actually increase our capacity by 10 percent in terms of passenger capacity. In this sense, the number of passengers carried at a single trip will also relieve the capacity on the metrobus line."

'WE WILL REDUCE BREAKDOWNS WITH THE YOUNG FLEET'

Reminding that some malfunctions may occur depending on the age of the vehicles, Imamoglu said, "There are some breakdowns and malfunctions. We will reduce this even more with our young fleet. Vehicles have a failure rate. So there is no such thing as zero breakdown anywhere in the world. We also have a failure rate in our vehicles and the course of this rate over the years is systematically and mathematically in IETT's data."
